A graduate of the University of Melbourne, Professor Hare undertook post-graduate training at both the University of Melbourne and Guy’s Hospital, London. He currently holds positions of Senior Cardiologist and Director of Heart Failure Services at Austin Health. He has been Co-ordinator of Cardiovascular Research for the University of Melbourne and has supervised more than 60 research students, as well as mentoring numerous cardiology trainees.

His interest in lipids and cardiovascular prevention included a period as Medical Director, National Heart Foundation (Vic. Div.) 1983-1990. Each year he generally receives over 500 international citations to his personal research, research interests that include vascular biology, revascularisation strategies, diabetes, heart failure, exercise and quality of life.
